DescriptionĀtanga is the ultimate Syrah from Bridge Pa Vineyard. "I have wanted to create the ultimate Bridge Pa Syrah for many years and the opportunity arose with the stellar 2007 vintage. Our winemaking team tasted through the Louis 2007 barriques, selected the most outstanding then returned the wine to new French barriques for a second year. After extended bottle aging we are ready to release 500 bottles of 2007 Ātanga, which means ‘exquisite’ in Maori." Stephen Daysh
Inspiration for Ātanga has come from E. Guigal’s ‘Ex-Voto’ with extended new oak treatment of 24 months, this wine is another stylistic addition to our Syrah range.
2007 was a stellar vintage in Hawke’s Bay, hand harvesting and gentle winemaking techniques preserved the full array of Syrah flavours and aromas. These are enhanced by oak aging in new French barriques which impart spice and charry oak tannins. After a year in new oak our winemaking team tasted through the Louis 07 barrels and selected the best two. The wine was returned to two new French Oak barriques of different cooperage to further enhance its complexity. Bottled at the end of 2009, Ātanga has been left to age for another 24 months to allow the oak influence to integrate seamlessly into the wine. Only 500 bottles of the ultimate Bridge Pa syrah Ātanga 2007 have been released each with a numbered label.
